Valuing Home & Garden Assets for Clearance
The resale market for Home & Garden clearance is highly segmented. Unlike electronics or fashion, home goods vary significantly in volume-to-value ratios. When we assess a stock lot, we calculate the recoverable trade value based on the current secondary market demand rather than the original RRP. For standard household goods, textiles, and DIY tools, offers typically range between 8% and 25% of the original cost price, though high-demand branded items or seasonal essentials can sit outside these brackets.
Core Inventory Categories We Acquire
We look for diverse product ranges across the entire household sector. This includes:
- Soft Furnishings & Textiles: Bedding, curtains, cushions, and rugs. We prefer original packaging to ensure the highest recovery value.
- Kitchen & Dining: Cookware, small appliances (kettles, toasters), glassware, and dinnerware sets.
- DIY & Hardware: Power tools, hand tools, painting accessories, and ironmongery.
- Garden & Outdoor: Patio furniture, planters, garden tools, and seasonal lighting.
- Home Decor: Lighting fixtures, mirrors, wall art, and storage solutions.
Factors Influencing Your Valuation
Several specific variables dictate the final offer for home and garden stock. Understanding these helps sellers prepare their inventory lists for a faster turnaround.
1. Seasonality and Timing Garden furniture and outdoor maintenance equipment carry a significant premium if traded in late winter or early spring. Conversely, if you are clearing barbecues or patio sets in October, the valuation reflects the cost of storage until the next peak season. Indoor home decor remains relatively stable year-round.
2. Condition and Grading We prioritise 'New in Box' (A-Grade) inventory. However, we also acquire pristine overstock, end-of-line ranges, and liquidated assets. If your stock consists of customer returns or B-Grade items, these must be clearly identified. Mixed-grade pallets are valued lower due to the labour costs associated with testing and re-kitting.
3. Volume and Logistics Logistical efficiency is a primary driver of value. A single-SKU lot comprising 26 pallets of the same garden chair is easier to process and redistribute than 26 pallets containing 500 different small decor items. Large, consolidated volumes allow us to offer more competitive pricing as they reduce our per-unit handling costs.
4. Channel Restrictions We respect your brand integrity. If you have specific restrictions—such as preventing resale on Amazon, eBay, or within the UK market—we can accommodate these requirements. However, strict restrictions may limit the pool of available secondary buyers and impact the final valuation.
The Logistics of Collection
Once a price is agreed upon and the sale is finalised, we handle all logistical arrangements. We operate across the UK, using a fleet that can handle everything from a few pallets to multiple 40ft containers.
We aim to collect within 24 to 72 hours of payment. Sellers should ensure that stock is palletised and accessible for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). If the stock is loose-loaded, please notify us in advance so we can adjust the collection plan accordingly.
Required Paperwork and Confidentiality
To move from an estimate to a firm offer, we require a comprehensive stock list (typically in Excel or CSV format). This should include:
- SKU/EAN codes
- Product descriptions
- Total quantities per line
- Original cost price or RRP
- Physical location (Postcode)
We maintain strict confidentiality throughout the process. Your commercial data, price lists, and the fact that you are clearing stock are never shared with third parties outside of the direct transaction requirements.
